Saturday Pages: Forecast by Rinda Elliott!!

As the second entry for this week's Saturday Pages I have a book that I was extremely lucky to read early, since it doesn't releases until August 5th and I have to thank Rinda, the author for very generously send it to me!

Since this is an ARC it is counted towards my 2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge, but since it was read in July, I'm not really counting it towards my ARC August goals!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ever since I finished reading Foretold, I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book, and when author offered me a chance to reading an ARC, I absolutely jumped at it!

As a huge lover of everything mythology and a slightly more recent convert of everything Marvel, specially their versions of the Norse Gods, this series has the main ingredients to become something I'd really enjoy, and this second book has not disappointed me at all!

Forecast is the story of Cora, looking for one of the reincarnated warriors that her mother is tracking down, and since we already got the all the main ground work of world building done on Foretold, here we expand more on it and we follow the story of Cora and Taran. Apparently the sisters each chose a would-be warrior at random, but I'm pretty sure fate must have been at play in there.

Even if we really didn't know much about was going on, during Foretold we were given a few hints about what was going on with Cora, and seeing the same phone calls relayed the other way around, helped me put together the timeline straight in my head much better.

This story is much more about Taran and Cora and both of them figuring out what is going on, for Taran to discover that his heritage and his mum insisting on getting him a custom hammer was not just being peculiar, and since we already know who's behind the threat, this book relies more on the characters than on the mystery driving the plot. We still do get a few susprises and revelations and a bit more information about what's going on and what might be the triplets role on stopping Ragnarok.

The pacing was brisk with plenty of action and tension, and despite meeting some completely new characters, we return to a familiar world, so we feel quite at home very soon. Both Cora and Taran were quite entertaining with their banter and the way they started to work as a team. Cora being a witch and her Norn being the one that saw the present had a different approach and way of dealing with the threats. Taran was quite a cheeky Thor, I kept on imagining him as a younger Chris Hemsworth, and that is quite a nice mental image to have throught the book!

The Norse mythology is threaded quite seamlessly in the plot and we get plenty of references to the different stories about Thor, his companions, his battles, his foes, and we also get a few new threats that be reference to either Avengers movies or the more classical Norse Eddas! We also got a few tiny hints to where the next book might take place and what new info we might be finding out about, but we really know very little about the journey that Kat is taking to find the warrior that she has to protect!

Well deserved 4 stars for this second book that is completely middle book syndrome free! Now I cannot wait for the final book, Foresworn!!

It sounds like you're really enjoying the series! I feel like they're not a *me* series... but. But. I'm so glad that you're loving the books :)
