Mark This Book Monday: ARC Review of Foresworn by Rinda Elliott!!

Hello there guys!

I'm starting this week on style by having my Monday off and going to watch Mockinjay for the second time in the evening!

We're starting this Mark This Book Monday with a review for an ARC of the final book in a trilogy, and one that I was extremely happy to discover earlier this year! As an ARC provided by the author it counts for my 2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge too!

ForeswornForesworn by Rinda Elliott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I discovered this trilogy through the wonderful Jenny from Supernatural Snark and connected with the author via Twitter and she was kind enough to send me an advance copy of this one so I could read it before my preorder arrives next month! Thank you so much, Rinda!

That said, getting this book for review has not influenced my review or my enjoyment of the book in any way, except for being able to enjoy it earlier!

Foresworn is Kat's book, and she's the younger and toughest of the triplets. We already know a lot of information that she doesn't when she starts her journey, since we've already read Coral's and Raven's stories. But Rinda does quite a great job at both helping us keep our interest in Kat's story and keep up with the timeline with the phone calls with her sisters, so we know how it is progressing.

Kat soon finds the guy she chose to protect from her mother, and she finds herself drawn into a group of people that not only they know what she is, but that have been preparing for Ragnarok for quite a long time! Arun knows whose soul he carries and knows how to work his gift for the most part. Other young people with gods souls inside them have been coming to his farm, drawn there by the music that comes from the lake in Yellowstone, so when Kat arrives she finds herself surrounded by more people like herself and not only feels an attraction to Arun, but also a kinship that was unknown to her before.

The action moves along quite fast, because while Kat is trying to figure out how to help Arun and return to protect her sisters, fires and accidents keep on happening around the farm, and soon the bigger picture starts becoming a lil clearer. Kat gets more information on her mother's side of the family, which happens to be quite surprising. And we also find out a bit more about the triplet's father.

The final confrontation happens when the three sisters get together and it was quite a show down, with fighting both physical and magical and that would have been a fantastic conclusion. Then we got an epilogue that started very satifying and fuzzy feels but then left us with a direct hook! Amazing but very evil!!

Very well deserved 4 stars for this final book in a fantastic trilogy that mixes contemporary, paranormal and Norse mythology flawlessly!

Waiting On Wednesday #69!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted at Breaking The Spine  that spotlights those can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-them books that we are eagerly awaiting!

Well, this week I'm totally biting my nails waiting for a final book in a trilogy I'm loving so far, and which book is that one, you say? Foresworn by Rinda Elliott!!

Goodreads Summary:

"It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny.

But only if they survive…

Kat Lockwood grew up listening to her unhinged mother’s stories about the Norse goddess souls she and her triplet sisters carry, about fiery deaths and a prophecy foretelling the world’s end. Now, to save that world, Kat must find a guy who hosts the soul of a Norse god–a warrior with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

But at a truck stop on her road trip, Kat freezes time while she writes out a cryptic message in runes. The only other person able to see this happen? A gorgeous guy with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.

Kat’s not convinced peaceful Arun is the future warrior who will turn the tide in the final battle. Yet, Arun turns out to be a lot tougher than he seems. As soul-carrying teens and underworld creatures gather over the world’s deadliest volcano, Kat finds that no one, including her sisters and mother, is exactly who she thought they were….

Sisters of Fate

The prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die."

Why am I eagerly awaiting Foresworn? Well, it IS the final book in the trilogy and we're getting more action and a lot more twists and answers and I simply cannot wait!!

What are you all (im)patiently awaiting this week?

Saturday Pages: Forecast by Rinda Elliott!!

As the second entry for this week's Saturday Pages I have a book that I was extremely lucky to read early, since it doesn't releases until August 5th and I have to thank Rinda, the author for very generously send it to me!

Since this is an ARC it is counted towards my 2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge, but since it was read in July, I'm not really counting it towards my ARC August goals!

ForecastForecast by Rinda Elliott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ever since I finished reading Foretold, I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book, and when author offered me a chance to reading an ARC, I absolutely jumped at it!

As a huge lover of everything mythology and a slightly more recent convert of everything Marvel, specially their versions of the Norse Gods, this series has the main ingredients to become something I'd really enjoy, and this second book has not disappointed me at all!

Forecast is the story of Cora, looking for one of the reincarnated warriors that her mother is tracking down, and since we already got the all the main ground work of world building done on Foretold, here we expand more on it and we follow the story of Cora and Taran. Apparently the sisters each chose a would-be warrior at random, but I'm pretty sure fate must have been at play in there.

Even if we really didn't know much about was going on, during Foretold we were given a few hints about what was going on with Cora, and seeing the same phone calls relayed the other way around, helped me put together the timeline straight in my head much better.

This story is much more about Taran and Cora and both of them figuring out what is going on, for Taran to discover that his heritage and his mum insisting on getting him a custom hammer was not just being peculiar, and since we already know who's behind the threat, this book relies more on the characters than on the mystery driving the plot. We still do get a few susprises and revelations and a bit more information about what's going on and what might be the triplets role on stopping Ragnarok.

The pacing was brisk with plenty of action and tension, and despite meeting some completely new characters, we return to a familiar world, so we feel quite at home very soon. Both Cora and Taran were quite entertaining with their banter and the way they started to work as a team. Cora being a witch and her Norn being the one that saw the present had a different approach and way of dealing with the threats. Taran was quite a cheeky Thor, I kept on imagining him as a younger Chris Hemsworth, and that is quite a nice mental image to have throught the book!

The Norse mythology is threaded quite seamlessly in the plot and we get plenty of references to the different stories about Thor, his companions, his battles, his foes, and we also get a few new threats that be reference to either Avengers movies or the more classical Norse Eddas! We also got a few tiny hints to where the next book might take place and what new info we might be finding out about, but we really know very little about the journey that Kat is taking to find the warrior that she has to protect!

Well deserved 4 stars for this second book that is completely middle book syndrome free! Now I cannot wait for the final book, Foresworn!!

Waiting On Wednesday #50!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted at Breaking The Spine  that spotlights those can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-them books that we are eagerly awaiting!

What book I'm-dying-to-get-reading-already this week? Forecast by Rinda Elliott!!

Goodreads Summary:

"The Lockwood triplets are charged with helping to save the world—but at a high cost.

Coral is always in the middle, always the family peacemaker. She’s the sister with the most to prove. When a freak snowstorm halts her Florida summer, signaling the Norse end of the world, she tracks down Taran Breen—a would-be warrior carrying Thor’s soul. A boy who’s fought his temper all his life and is now a suspect for murder.

One who looks at her as no other has before.

As roaring seas surge and terrifying underworld creatures emerge for battle, can Coral control her goddess magic and protect Taran? Because now she has a chance for more than her crazy life—as long as she and Taran win….

It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny.

But only if they survive…"

Why am I eagerly awaiting Forecast? Well, I read and loved the first book in the series and I cannot wait to find out what was going on with Coral & THOR!! I'm a huge Norse myths (and of mythology in general) fan, so a series that explores them? I'm all for it!!

What are you all (im)patiently waiting this week?

Saturday Pages: Foretold by Rinda Elliott!!

Hey there! Welcome to this week's edition of Saturday Pages!

This week I have a book that I discovered thanks to Jenny from Supernatural Snark! She reviewed the book on her blog and I loved how it sounded. And since me and Jenny have quite similar tastes, I knew I had to read it! This is another of those "me" reads, that are not part of any challenges.

Foretold (Sisters of Fate, #1)Foretold by Rinda Elliott

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I discovered Foretold when I read the review for it on Supernatural Snark, Jenny's blog! I love Jenny's reviews cause they're fantastic and her taste is quite similar to mine, so when I saw that she had loved this one... I knew I had to read it!

Foretold starts with Raven Lockwood, the eldest of the Lockwood triplets, trying to find and save the life of a warrior that might have been prophecised to kill her. Because of that prophecy, the triplet's mother has left to find the warriors (one for each sister) and kill them before they have a chance to kill the girls. The triplets have the souls of the Norns inside them (some sort of reincarnation) and the amount of Norse mythology that permeates the pages of this book is amazing!

We follow Raven while she tries to find her warrior and to save his life in the middle of the beginning of a freak summer snow storm, that could be the beginning of Ragnarok. As it happens, the warrior finds and rescues her, and they find themselves fighting an unknown enemy, even if Raven suspects her mother.

The book keeps you turning page after page, building the suspense and keeping it full of action, with a few moments when we get some necessary information and world building, that luckily never feels like info dumping. I loved reading all the Norse mythology references and I loved how the connection between Raven and Vanir developed.

It might have seemed a bit like insta love in any other case, but aside from the hormones insta attraction, there's more to Vanir and Raven than just themselves, since they have parts of old Norse gods inside them, that have a connection between them. I really loved reading about Raven and Vanir together, even when it seemed that the little bits of intimacy that they kept on stealing might have not been at the best of times.

I also loved how important family was in this book. Even if we're following Raven, she never forgets about her sisters, Coral and Kat, and through the little snippets of information we gather every time they get in touch, I cannot wait to read the other sisters' books and see what's up with them! Vanir's family is also very important and very present, and a central part of the climax battle. And even more key to everything is Dru, the triplet's mother.

If you love a good bit of romance with a few swoons, Norse mythology and loads of action, this books is perfect for you! Very well deserved for stars for this one and I already have book 2 and 3 preordered!

Mark This Book Monday: ARC Review of Thor: The Viking God of Thunder by Graeme Davies!

Hello everyone! Happy Monday and Merry Xmas and Happy almost New Year! I will be making a post about my New Year resolutions & wishing you lot a very Happy New 2014!

For the first review of this Mark This Book Monday I'm having another ARC from NetGalley for review!

Thor: The Viking God of ThunderThor: The Viking God of Thunder by Graeme Davis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got the chance to review this book after being approved for it on NetGalley and it seemed like the Universe's answer to my wish to read more about Norse mythology.

This is a short enough book on 80 pages, but with enough content to explain to us the origins of the myths and when they were collected and by whom. We get some of the original texts translated and we also get others narrated in a more conventional modern speech.

A quick and very informative read, exactly what I needed and I know I will be looking for other books in the same series to brush up on my mythology knowledge! 4 stars!
