Wearing Handmade Wednesday: Fabulously Fierce Home Decor!!

Wearing Handmade Wednesday time is here once again! Ready for an usual thing to wear?

"Wearing" a Fabulously Fierce Lampshade!

I've featured Kylie's pet shop before, it's where I got the collars for both Miss Cinnamon and Miss Indy, and though that shop is no more, you need to check her shiny new pet shop, The Willow Goose! But of course, this is not a feature of her pet shop, but of her amazing home decor shop, Fabulously Fierce!

Kylie's speciality are corseted lampshades! The perfect way to add a wonderful unique touch to the decor to any and all rooms in your house! They're so great that even if I don't have a place of my own yet, I got me the most awesome lampshade in history, go ahead, be jealous! You can find a lampshade to match any decor in her shop, from gothy to cutesy, and she can also make you a custom one to match your room's decor perfectly!

But, the lampshade I'm happily sporting is not the one I bought for myself, is one this lil lucky lady won on a giveaway on WhatTheCraft (you need to check this website, not only has awesome giveaways, but also all sort of info and tutorials for the crafty inclined!). This lampshade will be given to my friend Gema as part of her b-day presents next week, hope she'll like it!

Shopping Handmade: Esther's Birthday

Finally, I'm on holidays!

And to start the time off properly, I had lunch with my fellow nurses & friends since nursing school (that makes us friends for over 9 years) and had a great time!

I also took the change to hand out some b-day presents for two of said friends, the first of them being Esther, whose birthday was on the 19th this month, but since we always have issues with our schedules, only now we had managed to meet!

As usual, I turned to Etsy looking for something unique and amazing that would match her interests, and would not be whatever typical stuff you can find in any mall.

She has a huge love for writing, and always keeps diaries and agendas with mementos for special occasions, and I thought that a handmade journal would be perfect, so I turned to a shop I had been stalking for a loooong time: Kreativlink. I got lucky and found an awesome Horus journal that is perfect for Esther since she's a huge lover of all Egyptian things like myself!

She absolutely loves it, and commented on how the size is perfect for always taking it with her, and how it's almost too great to actually write on it!

Her second gift I had to think over a lil more, but since she's a huge lover of all things cute, and also a huge lover of all things Japanese since she started studying martial arts a pair of years ago, I got her this amazingly cute Geisha pillow from MyMimi, that can be used as a mini-pillow, decorative or stress-reliever!

I think she was pretty pleased with her loot, and I was really happy to once again managed to shop handmade and score with it!

Dingogirl's Den!!

As promised, a blog entry that is NOT our Sunday shots photographs!

This blog entry, as many others, have been a while on the making, due to lack of photographs, lack of time, and lack of motivation to either sit down and write it, or go take the pictures... But, after all that, here it is!

I met Jolene from Dingogirl's Den via DIYScene, and since day one I fell in love with her wonderful characters that she made live in her messenger bags, pillows and even art dolls... Really cute but in a different way, not your sugary, seen-everywhere cute. You have doggies, angry cats, David the gnome's look-alike, feisty sheep, awfully cute monsters and anything that you can imagine!

I always thought I wanted, at the very least, one of her pillows for when I have my own place, but, when my dad brought lil Cinnamon (Canela in Spanish) home, the cutest, tiniest lil puppy ever, something started brewing inside my head... and after a while, I decided to ask Jolene if she'd be willing to make me a custom pillow, with a Cinnamon doppelganger appliqued! She was quite excited about the challenge, since she had never caricaturized a living being before!

The process could have been even smoother if I hadn't dissappeared when my laptop died, leaving Jolene with only one picture of Cinnamon to work with, and an un-approved sketch for over a week... Thanks Jolene for your patience! Once I got a new laptop, we resumed the process, and Jolene's sketch was very enthusiastically approved!

And that was just the beginning, cause when I saw the pictures of the finished pillow, I just couldn't believe the AMAZING job that Jolene had done! I clearly had my puppy, in pillow form right before my eyes! And not only that, but you need to read Jolene's blog entry about the pillow, to get the whole info of all the time, dedication and love (even using a family's vintage fabric that has been in her family for generations!) that she put into this pillow!

Once the pillow arrived home, I couldn't believe it, but it was EVEN better in person! I have it now on my bed, and will be coming with me whenever I move out and wherever I move to! No matter what, even if I can't take my Cinnamon with me, and she'll have to stay with my parents, I'll always have this beautiful pillow with me!

This weekend, I had promised Jolene I'd get pictures of miss Cinnamon with her fabric doppelganger, and even if it proved to be a bit of a challenge (she's such an active puppy!) I managed to take a few pics of the both of them together! Aren't they cute?

"Mommy, are we done with pictures yet?"
