Mark This Book Monday: Review of Solstice by P.J. Hoover!

Even if it's a bit later than usual, I have a review up for this week's Mark This Book Monday, and it is the first book read for the 2014 TBR Pile Challenge!

This copy of Solstice I won in a giveaway, it was US only but they allowed you providing a US address even if you didn't live there, so I asked my sis-in-law if she didn't mind getting the book shipped to her, and she agreed. The book was sent to her, then the bf's mom brought it along to her to India since I was gonna be visiting in Delhi in October. So Solstice has taken a nice trip, from US to India to Spain!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I won Solstice a while back on a giveaway, and after a few thousands of miles, we finally made it back to Spain in November. It sounds very intriguing with the combination of Greek mythology and dystopian aspects, even if now that I'm done it's can't be defined as dystopian, but purely a different rework of Greek myths.

Piper lives in Austin with her overprotective mom, and boy when I say overprotective I mean insanely so. The world has changed in the last 18 years and it's like climate change on steroids. Massive heat with life dying left, right and centre. Piper has been too sheltered all her life and she is ready to rebel, like any other teenager but in her case from an even more extreme situation.

At first that's what it seemed, a dystopian setting, a teenager trying to rebel against her mother's oppresive care, with a best friend that supports the rebelling, and two guys vying for her attention. And there were the signs of the dreaded love triangle. It wasn't too bad since it was understandable that she wanted to meet and date the guys since she was attracted to both but somehow Piper's behaviour had me shaking my head, she didn't seem to be rebelling as much as being too naive!

It all changed for the better when the Greek myths started to become apparent, and given that I am a huge fan of Greek mythology I really enjoyed it! I of course slapped myself for not seeing before what was quite obvious from the beginning, but of course I guessed it way before Piper herself did. Still I couldn't wait to see how everything would tie with the original myths once Piper figured out things.

Piper did grow into herself during the book, quite literally. And despite some times I shook my head at her early attitude, I really liked how she was hellbent on making her own choices and not having other people made them for her.

Despite a bit of rocky beginning, I ended up enjoying this book, and reading a stand alone is always a nice change of pace, with a story wrapped up in full. 3.5 stars.

Waiting On Wednesday #13!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted at Breaking The Spine  that spotlights those can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-them books that we are eagerly awaiting!

The book I'm absolutely going crazy waiting for this week is Sentinel by Jennifer L Armentrout, the fifth and final book on the Covenant series!

Goodreads summary:

"It's a beautiful day for a war.

As the mortal world slowly slips into chaos of the godly kind, Alexandria Andros must overcome a stunning defeat that has left her shaken and in doubt of their ability to end this war once and for all.

And with all the obstacles between Alex and her happily-ever-after with the swoonworthy Aiden St. Delphi, they must now trust a deadly foe as they travel deep into the Underworld to release one of the most dangerous gods of all time.

In the stunning, action-packed climax to the bestselling Covenant series, Alex must face a terrible choice: the destruction of everything and everyone she holds dear… or the end of herself."

Why am I eagerly awaiting Sentinel? Are you kidding me? Aiden St Delphi? Alex vs Ares? That evil evil cliffhanger at the end of Apollyon? How can I not be bitting my nails in anticipation of the final book for this series? I can't wait to see how Alex and Aiden get through everything that will be thrown at them in this book!

What are you all (im)patiently awaiting this week?

Waiting On Wednesday #6!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted at Breaking The Spine  that spotlights those can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-them books that we are eagerly awaiting!

This week my eargerly awaited can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-it release is Antigoddess by Kendare Blake!

Goodreads summary:

"The acclaimed author of ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD returns with an incredible story about ancient gods, modern love and an epic fight for survival

He was Apollo, the sun, and he'd burn down anything that tried to hurt her... Cassandra and Aidan are just your average high-school couple. Or so Cassandra believes. Blissfully unaware that she was once a powerful prophetess, Cassandra doesn't even know that god exist... Until now.

Because the gods are dying - and Cassandra could hold the answer to their survival. But Aidan has a secret of his own. He is really Apollo, god of the sun, and he will do anything to protect the girl he loves from the danger that's coming for her. Even if it means war against his immortal family...
Sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; relentless action and suspense - ANTIGODDESS is the YA novel you've been waiting for."

Why am I eagerly awaiting Antigoddess? Well, since the moment I heard Kendare Blake had a new book coming out I knew I had to check it out (I loved her Anna books!) and when I read the summary with the different twist to the Greek mythology and Athena as one of the main characters... I just needed the book!

What are you all (im)patiently waiting to read?
