Waiting On Wednesday #91!!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted at Breaking The Spine  that spotlights those can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-them books that we are eagerly awaiting!

This week the book that I'm extremely excited and cannot wait for it to be released is Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge!!

Goodreads Summary:

"When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world. As the two become unexpected allies, they uncover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption."

Why am I eagerly awaiting Crimson Bound? Well, I'm not usually too fond of fairy tales retellings but I heard so many great things about the author's debut book and I'm very intrigued about a Little Red Riding Hood retelling where the main character is fighting to save the world!

What are you all (im)patiently awaiting this week?

  5. YESS so excited! I'm curious about the retelling of The Girl with No Hands. I've never read that fairy tale and it sounds creepy so I want to see how it'll be incorporated! Time to go brush up on it :D

    1. Yep, I think I had heard about that fairy tale before, but I found it so intriguing and having it mixed with Red Riding Hood in a dark retelling... I'm all for it!

  6. I liked the first book well enough, as much as i CAN like a retelling, since they just don't work for me. But when this one was offered for review, I declined. It just didn't appeal to me at all. Her writing is gorgeous, but as I said, retelling. I might moderately enjoy it, but the whole concept doesn't sit well with me.

    1. Thank you Linda! That's why it intrigued me so, Red Riding Hood is not an usual fairy tale for a retelling, right?

  10. Wut? Not fond of fairy tale retellings? I don't even know what that means. You're talking crazy! *snickers* Great pick, Pili--I'm glad this retelling caught your eye. Maybe it make you like them more ;)

    1. Pffft, most retellings have lacked the darkness the original fairy tales have, and that's what I miss when reading them! ;) But I've heard that's different with this one, so I'm hopeful! ;)

  14. I am so excited for this one, too. I loved Cruel Beauty - though I thought the last third of the book could have been slowed down because I was hella confused in places - and am looking forward to this one even more. I think Hodge is an extraordinarily gifted writer and I loved reading her first book! Everything I've seen her write in the tour has made me an even bigger fan, tho.

And I totally hear you. I usually side-eye fairy tale retellings (there's something about the language that I don't quite like? as well as the whole use of archetypes? I feel meh about it) but I am so excited for this one, Pili!!

    1. I still need to read Cruel Beauty and I hope I'll like it too, Layla!
I usually enjoy dark fairy tales (that's why I'm planning to get the new translation of the original Grim tales) but I don't like when they're turned all moralizing and preachy, which many times they do! And retellings end up losing the dark charm of the original tale more often than not!

  15. I'm excited for this one! I had a love/hate relationship with Cruel Beauty, so I'm really curious to see how another retelling by this author will go for me.
