2016 Challenges: Diverse Reads Book Challenge hosted by Read Sleep Repeat!!

Hello there guys!

Here I am with yet another reading challenge for 2016 and this is my fifth one!! I feel like I'm getting myself into trouble with so many challenges to keep track of, but I'm hoping I can do decently well at this!

The moment I saw Shelly from Read Sleep Repeat talking about this challenge I knew I'd be joining it! The 2016 Diverse Reads Book Challenge is hosted by Read Sleep Repeat and Chasing Faerytales and it's a way to help us read more diverse books!

I'm gonna be copy-pasting all the relevant info for the challenge so I can keep it handy on my blog, but HERE is Shelly's original post, where you can also sign up for the challenge!!

The Rules:
  • Read books that are diverse.
  • The MC must be part of a diverse group*
Defined by We Need Diverse Books: We recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities*, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities.
*We subscribe to a broad definition of disability, which includes but is not limited to physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, chronic conditions, and mental illnesses (this may also include addiction). Furthermore, we subscribe to a social model of disability, which presents disability as created by barriers in the social environment, due to lack of equal access, stereotyping, and other forms of marginalization.
  • The book can be set in a diverse setting, but not necessarily
  • #Ownvoices stories (stories about marginalized groups written by a member of that marginalized group) are widely encouraged as well! Promoting diverse books by diverse authors is important.
  • If the book is a fantasy it can be based on/inspired by a diverse mythology or folklore ( E.g. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh)
  • If the book is a sci fi or dystopia, it has to be based on a dystopian country that’s not USA. ( E.g. Cinder by Marissa Meyer)
  • Intersectionality is encouraged.
  • The novels don’t have to be YA, but as we are YA bloggers, those are probably the novels we are more likely to read
The Logistics:
  • This challenge will run from the 1st of January 2016 to the 31st of December 2016.
  • You can join in anytime you want.
  • This challenge is meant to be a personal goal challenge to help find more diverse novels and to read more diversely.
  • There are no levels/points! You can read as much or as little as you’d like, this is a personal goal and is mainly individualized
  • To join the challenge, add your sign up post to the link up at the bottom of the post. You can include your TBR for the challenge if you want, but it’s not a requirement. Your sign up post can be a separate post or a part of a giant list of all your 2016 reading challenges. Anything is fine.

My personal goal is going to be to read at least 24 diverse books, 2 per month! Since I can combine this with my other challenges for the year, I'm thinking it'll be rather manageable, but at the very least I plan to read 12, one per month!!

How to choose what books to read when is usually a bit complicated for me, so I'm gonna be following the guidelines & themes that they have as a sort of guide for each couple of months!:
  • January-March: Ethnic diversity
  • April-June: LGBTQIA+ diversity
  • July-September: Religious diversity
  • October-December: Mental and physical health and disabilities.
I already have one book ready to be read in my TBR pile for this month that fits the Ethnic diversity suggestion, so I just need to check my list for another and I'll be set!

Are you joining this challenge? What books would you recommend that have ethnic diversity?

2016 Challenges: Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge hosted by Falling for YA!!

Hey there guys!

After the whole week dedicated to my Top 10 lists I'm back with the last 2016 Challenge I've signed up (at least for now!). I've already gone a bit overboard because I had planned to keep thing low key and sign up just for three, but the 4 I'm doing are challenges I feel that will help me stay motivated with my reading and not slack so much with my reviewing (hopefully!).

I needed a challenge for ARCs because I really want to finally reach the ever ellusive 80% on Netgalley so Falling for YA's 2016 Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge is exactly what I needed!

I'm gonna be aiming for the Gold Level because is a year long challenge and I already have a bit of a backlog of late eARCs I need to read, so 50 books from either Netgalley or Edelweiss really doesn't seem like too much to acomplish on a year! I hope that maybe I can reach the next level, but I want to keep it realistic too! ;)

I've already made a Goodreads shelf/list with the books I need to read that are pending on my Netgalley/Edelweiss dashboards and that I'm most likely to read too! ;)

2016 Challenges: Tamora Pierce Challenge hosted by Read Write Love 28!!

Hiya guys!

Aside from running around and being absolutely unbearably excited today because tonigth after work I'm going to the midnight release of THE FORCE AWAKENS and nothing could make this Star Wars massive geek happier, I'm continuing with my challenges for 2016 posts!

I discovered my love for the Tamora Pierce this year, because till October I had seen many people spreading their love for them but it was Gillian's post about the Tortall books that made me grab the Alanna Quartet for my Kindle and absolutely devour them! Then I re-read Alanna, The First Adventure for The Midnight Garden Classic & YA Readalong and when I was going to continue re-reading the other 3 books, Nori from Read Write Love 28 told me to wait!

As it happens she was plotting to host a very awesome challenge for 2016, the Tamora Pierce Challenge! HERE is Nori's post with the link to sign up for the challenge!

For the challenge my plan is to re-read the rest of the Alanna Quartet and then read all the rest of the Tortal universe books that I haven't read yet! I don't plan to re-read The Immortals Quartet for now, but who knows, it might change later in the year!

As for the rest of the challenges I've made a handy GoodReads list/shelf!

Have you read any Tamora Pierce books before? Do you want to join the challenge??

2016 Challenges: Debut Author Challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!!

Hello there guys!

I'm back with another of the challenges that I've chosen to take part to in 2016!!

My objective with choosing challenges is usually to hold myself accountable and to choose those that allign more closely with something that I already wanted to do.

Since I'm extremely excited for many 2016 debut books and authors, I knew I needed to join a challenge and so I'll be taking part of the 2016 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl!!

If you want to join this challenge, and I highly recommend that you do, because there are some amazing books debuting next year, HERE is the introduction & sign up post with all the rules!

Once again, I've made a Goodreads list/shelf for this challenge, and so far I have 10 books only in it, but I know it'll be growing along the year and I hope to read at least 20 debuts this year!

Here's my list so far! Any other debuts you'd recommend I had to my list? Let me know in the comments!!

#RockMyTBR Book Tag!!

Hello there guys!

I've already started signing up for challenges for 2016 because I'm gonna limit myself to 3 that I know I'll be able to keep up with.

One of them is hosted by my friend Sarah from The YA Book Traveller, the #RockMyTBR challenge! And to make it a lil more fun, she's even made a book tag for it!

I don't usually take part in tags but I'm making an exception here because it can work as a lil bit of a list of books I plan to tackle during 2016 for this challenge!

Rock My TBR Song and Book Tag

Look at your books on your TBR and do the tag! It is open to all, even if you aren’t officially doing the challenge!

1. SMELL LIKE TEEN SPIRIT (Nirvana) – A Contemporary I Want to Read
I've had this one for quite a while and I'm pretty sure I'd love it because Ann Aguirre made me love NA!

2. SHUT UP AND DANCE (Walk to the Moon) – Most Anticipated Book You Have
After adoring ADSOM I really wanted to read this one but it's in one of my many unpacked book boxes and I cannot get my hands on it until they're unpacked

3. CENTURIES (REMIX) (Fall Out Boy) – A Twist on a Classic or Fairy Tale
I don't read many retellings, but I have heard so many amazing things about this one, so I hope I'll get to this one soon!

4. YOSHIMI BATTLES THE PINK ROBOT (The Flaming Lips) – A Science Fiction Book or a Book Set in the Future
I heard so many great things about this one and I grabbed it on a whim from Book Outlet, so I hope I'll finally get to reading it!

5. SHE LOOKS SO PERFECT (5 Seconds of Summer) – A Book with a Girl on the Cover
My #TBTBSecretSanta got this for me last year and not just one girl but three are in the cover! I've wanted to read it forever, but it was also packed away!

6. AFRICA (Toto) – A Book Set in a Foreign Country
Another of my #TBTBSecretSanta books from last year! It's set in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and I'm sure it's gonna be absolutely amazing!

7. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST (Queen) – A Book or Books That Will Complete a Series
I loved the other books in this series but I'm a bit scared of the potential heartbreak on this one! But I must be brave and read it once and for all!

8. SOMEONE NEW (Hozier) – A Book by an Author You Haven’t Read Yet
I own more than one book by Claudia Grey but I still haven't read any! 2016 will be the year for sure!

9. HELLO (Adele) –  A Book your DNF or Weren’t in the Mood for at the Time
I'm such a chicken! I know I'll love this one and I started it, but the first book was so creepy that I had to cover all mirrors at night! I've been meaning to continue reading this one but only on daylight hours... so I have to set up one of my days off aside to read this one!

10. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT (Kylie Minogue)–  A Book you Bought Because of the Cover
I am usually quite reluctant to go for books only on cover lust (been burned too many times, I'm afraid!) but this one was too adorable to pass up!

I won't be tagging anyone since I so rarely do them myself, but if any of you feel like doing this one... Feel free to tag yourself!!

And maybe join the #RockMyTRB challenge, because let's be honest here... our TBR piles are life hazards! ;)
